I am planning to start studies in Criminal Justice in the fall and have a few questions about how to do what I want to do.

I am 28, which I know is a little old to just be getting started but this is a life long passion I am finally going to pursue.
I am mainly interested in working in the area of online predators and sex offenders. I am open to just about anything based in criminology but this is my specific interest.
I don't have any interest really in being a street cop or spending 20 years climbing the ranks if there is a way to work quickly toward what I want to do.  I don't care what branch of Law Enforcement I work for or what my title is, I don't have to wear a uniform or carry a gun even, I just want to truly make a difference.
My question is: should I go for a BS degree or AS degree (considering my age), would online classes be just as good?  Should I focus on a certain area of CJ study? Should I be looking into a certain agency to be a part of?  I am married with two kids so I assume FBI is out.
ANY guidance will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!!

Here a few links to civilian positions you might find interesting:
http://publicsafety.utah.gov/forensicservices/interest.html

http://www.coconino.az.gov/sheriff.aspx?id=512

both have computer forensics and computer crime aspects.
