Applications are being accepted for the John C. Gessner Memorial Scholarship; sociology and criminal justice majors and minors are eligible to apply. Scholarship amounts will be no less than $1,500.
Applicants must print an application form (available online) and write a one-page essay on “How Do You Think Sociology Will Be Useful Later in Life?” Application forms and essays must be received in hard copy form by Dr. William Kinney by noon, Thursday, April 8, in Room 446, O’Shaughnessy Educational Center. Late or electronic applications will not be accepted.
Gessner was a member of the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice from 1985 to 1991. He died while serving as department chair. His family set up the scholarship, which is awarded each spring for the following academic year.
Criminal Justice scholarships cover a broad field including law, criminal investigations, criminology and law enforcement. As a criminal justice major, you learn how to apply the law in career of your choice. Criminal justice scholarships help pay for the educational requirements to get the legal job you are looking for.
Obtaining a criminal justice scholarship is not as difficult as it may seem. The largest obstacle is simply finding the scholarships. Criminal justice scholarships can be obtained from several sources, including businesses, the government and no-profit organizations but the biggest source are schools themselves.
