Most recently I have attained my associate degree of science in Criminal Justice from Central Florida College located in Winter Park, Florida. I would like to continue my education at the University of Central Florida. I need to know how to transfer my credits from Central Florida College who is (Nationally Accredited) to the University of Central Florida or any other (Regionally Accredited) College or university in the state of Florida. Does this Regional or National accreditation mean anything when I submit my degree to the police department?
There is a huge difference between national and regional accreditation. Regional is always best and most of the units are transferable. However, transferring between colleges and universities is tricky, some of your community college courses simply aren’t transferable. So, you really need to be careful when planning your academic career. Secondly, units or credits earned from a nationally accredited university or college are RARELY transferable to a university with regional accreditation. Regional reigns supreme in the academic field. Nearly all community colleges, state colleges and state universities are regionally accredited; as are the prestigious private schools, etc.
