Technology seems to have moved faster than before, or maybe I am just getting older and can't keep up.  This course has definately reinforced the need to make sure I stay on top of what is new and what is going to be the next big thing.  Bad guys today are using technology to further their criminal efforts, law enforcement must keep technology on their side to prevent and apprehend the bad guys. This course has definately been a reminder.

Technology has advanced over the years. Im trying to keep up but its getting harder each year. The systems change constantly and I learned that you can never catch up with technology. This class made me aware that technology is wonderful but it can also be used as a weapon against you, your privacy and your safety. This class is very informational and interesting.

I agree. I think the older I'm getting the harder it is to keep up. Technology is always changing and i feel ou can never catch up with it. Once you learn one program,  newer and better one takes it's place. Criminals are also becoming more clever and using technology to help them.

I also agree. Even I am in my late 20s, I am so amaze the advance speed of technologies.  It is true that it is hard to keep up with the advance technologies.  I believe we don’t have to know every technology, but we need to have basic concept of how it works at minimum level (ex. you need to know how to drive a car, it do not mean you need to know the function of every parts of the engine; all you need to know is when you need to take the car to a trust   mechanic to maintain your car.)  This class provides what we need to know and what we need to aware of in the future.

The course taught us what we had and what kind of tools we going to make our job easier.  After we have the basic idea of how the technology works we can properly manage these tools.  We all have to keep up our knowledge of technology, it already and will be bigger part of our life.

I agree completely.  It is difficult to stay current.  As time permits, it will require a conscious effort to stay in the race...

This class has just enlightened me more on how dynamic law enforcement has become and how much I need to learn. It has also given me great resources for future use!

I agree with you cmuir .We definately have to stay ahead of the bad guys and keep up our skills. This class has been a great help and Mr. Foster's book is in depth and a wealth of knowledge, I'm keeping my copy.

I really learned a lot from this course. I liked the diversity in the lesson plan. The information in the class is very applicable to my job in law enforcement. I also believe it is very important to stay updated with technology. I read a book not to long ago for a promotional exam called Good to Great by Jim Collins. He gave an interesting perspective on technology in an organization. He warned against thinking of technology as the key to success and it should be used as an accelerator to accomplish the mission. I think we sometimes get too dependant on technology and forget that there are some traditional methods of solving crime that still work.

I learned quite a bit about this class, technology is very powerful. My favorite quote to my young officers and my sons is that knowledge is power. I thank this teacher and this course to open my eye to the future. Technology is scary but beneficial to all of us.

I was talking to  B-2 bomber pilot this past weekend, "wow what a honor it was". He is fearful of the technology we have today and what is in store for the  military, he is fearful that our future planes will have no pilots, he fears that a computer will take over and man will no longer have the final say. Who knows it may happened to Law Enforcement, Cops as Robots.

The one thing about this book, technology is so quick to change this book is obselete just like our present computers. Great theory to study, but the book needs to be updated. Overall i agree with you.

As a Police Officer I truly understand why technology is so important not only in the classroom, but in our jobs. As Police Departments we need to understand what exactly technology is. Today, most police departments look at technology primarily as computers, MDC, and RMS. Computers are one aspect of technology, but technology is much more than that, It can be surveillance equipment, night vision, wire taps, patrol cars etc. It is the working minds of people using objects in order to change the environment we work in. So, technology could be a ticket book, a video camera, a computer, etc. It is everything that we use or deal with in everyday life whether we are in basic police academy or in a SWAT unit. That's why keeping police offices current with new technology as well as using and/or learning about the old technology is important.

As technology advances, more products are invented and developed to assist law enforcement agencies and private entities protect against the actions of criminal predators.  As a side benefit, many aspects of this new technology have been incorporated into products made solely for the use of ordinary, law-abiding citizens.  This course has reinforced the importance of staying current on new products and systems that are being introduce into the market.  Also, with all this new police technology comes the high-tech criminal predator who strives to manipulate and twart the efforts of society to hold them at bay.

This class has really opened my eyes to how little I know about technology.  Added to that is the fact that I'm not that much of a techo geek to begin with, so attempting to understand all of the technology referenced in the book was often times difficult.  However, I did learn a lot about different and emerging technologies.

With my new and hightened awareness, hopefully I can keep up with the ever changing and advancing world of police technology.

I agree with M.Marhaba2008 when he wrote "I think we sometimes get too dependant on technology and forget that there are some traditional methods of solving crime that still work."

It goes without saying that advances in technology have led to increased effectivenss across the board for law enforcement agencies.  Today's law enforcement officers should always stay on top of emerging technology and incorporate it into their daily activities when practicable.  Unfortunately, with the emphasis now on technology, more traditional methods of crime solving such as the arts of interviewing and interrogation, seem to be receding into the background.

A tenured homicide detective recently told me that he has problems with newer homicide detectives when he said, "I always have to kick their butts out of the station.  They think they can solve a murder by sitting at a computer rather than getting outside and wearing out some shoe leather."

Every law enforcement officer, and I include myself first and foremost, should not only be aware of modern policing technology, but most importantly, not forget the nuts and bolts of good old fashioned police work.

This course really got me to dive in and explore the latest and greatest technologies that are out there.  The book touches on a few older technologies, but after doing a few papers for this class and my other class, it really got me into the new stuff, like the license plate and facial scanners, the latest DNA technologies, and I got up to date on the latest computer crimes.  It amazes me what criminals can get away with thanks to computers and the Internet.  I think its really important, even if you are not a "computer wiz," at least stay informed about the latest scams so you don't become a victim.

I agree... it's almost like you have to be extra-educated and informed just to get on the computer and use the Internet these days.  You really can't trust anyone on the internet, unless you know them personally.
