I will pass on the importance of education to those that follow. I will also try to incorporate some better leadership skills into the ways I interact with others. I will try to challenge them to successfully solve problems by using the tools at their disposal.

I have learned a lot while attending UI&U. Mainly how to make time management a priority. I have learned how to make time for family, work and school. I have also learned that I need to keep an open mind when it comes to things I don't/didn't understand, because they all work into my life somehow.
I hope to take my experience and impress on other people in my department, the importance of finishing what you start. As complicated and frustrating as working full time, coupled with going to school is, it was something that I needed to accomplish. I am proud to say it can me done.

| I agree with you. I wish I would have taken the initiative to finish my education early on in my carreer. It would have benefited me much sooner. I am and will continue to stress the importance of a degree to people I know on my department, especially those who still have several years in custody. If they work it right, they can have their degree by the time they go out to patrol and that is one less thing to have to do later on in their career.

I will encourage others to continue their education. I am so grateful that I enrolled in Union and I am very happy with the program.
I want to tell other officers how important education is.

What I would pass on about technology is that :1.) Do not be afraid of it. 2. Admit that you do not know all about it, because if you try to BS your way through it, you will get caught and feel foolics 3. This stuff does make your life easier, but not at first. Stick with it, it will pay dividends.
Great Course!

You mean you waited until you were almost 40 years old to get back in to it??
Take it from onewho is 51- age doesn't matter, the accomplishment does! Congrats to all of us who are almost "there!!!" All of us made the right decision to return, regardless of how old we are.

What part of what you learned are you going to incorporate into what you will train those who follow you?
Through this course I have learned of many great websites for research projects, I am sharing the information with others in the L.E. community every chance I get.

You have completed an undergraduate course in your criminal justice degree.
What part of what you learned are you going to incorporate into what you will train those who follow you?
I am the training manager at my department and come into contact with each officer at my department. I have already recruited two officers to join the program and will continue to recruit because I think an education is important. I further support this by many of the things that I have learned from the various courses, fellow students, and instructors. I will integrate this education into my personal being and use those skills and knowledge to be successful and to help mentor those that need mentoring and guidance.

I could not agree more. I teach Internet Investigations for the San Diego Regional Training Center and I am always telling my students to not be afraid of computers or technology. I tell them to get in to computer and learn. If they mess anything up, we can always fix it.

I will encourage others to go back to school to receive their formal education. In addition, I am now an example to my children that a college education is important. I will be able to take the knowledge I have learned about computer technology and apply it to my current assignment.

Ken,
Boy you are right! You cannot B.S. your way around technology. It doesn't apply to the tactics we used in patrol. The information system techs will figure us out right away. I am very humble when I am around them.

| I have learned a lot from this course. I think the thing I will tell others is to always question new technologies. Things that appear to be new and breakthrough technology need to be thoroughly analyzed and looked at from all angles, sometimes new just means new and not always better.

I have not been in school for 20 years and the internet was not around then. I too, have been pushed to discover new websites and ways to research topics instead of using the old library route.

| As the training manager it is good that you are pushing school. I think that there are not enough mentors for junior officers to set them on the right track early enough in their careers.

The most important issue that I can incorporate into what I will train those who follow, especially as it relates to this class, is that technology is more about people than the technology itself. Technology directly affects those who will ultimately be the end users, so their input and buy-in is critical to the success of any project.
