I have already started to use some of the knowledge that I learned when working with our info systems guy. Some of the knowledge that I will impart will be the vast amount of information available on the web. Information that I was unaware of until the website presentations.

Got to agree with you and rwinick. I think of the situational crime prevention theory when I look at our department's daily crime report and try and use it as a tool when thinking about solutions to some of the crime problems.

Ravelsarcadia,

I have to agree that I will likely apply several different concepts that I have taken from the course.  You are absolutely correct when you referred to the fact that you have to be knowledgeable in the field, which will aid in the purchase and use of newly implemented equipment.

I have learned a variety of useful information that I began to implement almost immediately.   I especially found the information related to policing including Rational Choice, and Problem and Community Oriented Policing, something I could apply on a daily basis in my current position as a detective.  The literature and instruction provided me the opportunity to pass on the education I have received to my peers and supervisors.

The website presentations were another aspect of the course that I found interesting.  Not only did the assignment put me in a position to where I truly had to learn about the sites benefits, but it encouraged me to learn about several aspects of the site’s applications.  Listening to the other classroom presentations was educational and provided me with additional feedback that I will be able to take back to, and implement at my organization.

I found I enjoyed the research for our class assignments. I have already used some of the websites to support grant information and the various presentations we do from time to time.

I agree, there  is a vast array of information out there, the information covered on the websites was only a snapshot of what can be accomplished through a combined effort of research and technology

Police technology has provided me with an opportunity to speak in front of my peers and overcome any nervousness I have with public speaking. Along with the website presentation, I was able to learn about many online resources, how to navigate through differ websites and apply myself by posting info to other classes.

I have took notes and saved the material from the course. The information related to police technology will be passed on to others in my department who I see struggling as some aspects of the job. The knowledge gained will assist in teaching younger officers who are just getting started with the department.

Well, I am only halfway thru my under graduate course, but I am better prepared to make decisions in the application of the law and administrative issues.  There have been several concepts I have learned, thus far, that I will incorporate to those who I train.

Marcos, I think one of the most important things we can do is pass on information to our fellow officers.  Concepts and things we have learned, but others may not know.  Many people in our profession have  they "Well I got mine attitude", but that is very short-sided.  Thanks for stepping-up, Glenn.

I have had the opportunity to pass on the website presentation materials to officers at our department. The resources presented by my classmates was valuable and I will continue to access the information after the course is over. This is my final course and I wish everyone the best.

Marcos:  You are right on with teaching and mentoring the younger officers.  It is critical that we develop officers to allow them the opportunity to succeed.  Technology is going to continue to increase and the more information we have through websites and education the better.

Art,

I agree that what we have learned has been useful and it is important to have significant knowledge based from education. As a supervisor your subordinates expect you to know the answer to their questions. When you’re able to respond with the right information it gives you credibility and sets an example for them to follow.

A lot of the technology that I have learned during this course are things that are already being implemented within my department.  This course has given me a better understanding of the advanced technology and how to use it.  I think that the website presentations were extremely valuable in that they have provided many useful resources that I can be use not only in the DB were I am currently assigned, but I can share this information with patrol and the specialized units as well.

I completely agree with many of you above.  Technology is changing and improving everyday and we need to stay on top of the latest trends.  This will only improve our abilities to investigate crimes.  It's also important that organizations support the use of new technology and encourage training for the new/younger officers.
