Florida Officials Launch Hotline to Report Suspicious Activity
Miami Herald, (09/01/2011), Katie Sanders
Florida has a new state hotline and a corresponding website for Floridians to report suspicious activity. The If You See Something, Say Something campaign, modeled on one started by New York City in 2002, uses the number 1-800-FLA-SAFE. Reports can also be made via an online form at http://www.fdle.state.fl.us. Residents can report suspicious activity, such as leaving bags unattended in public places, and authorities will follow up on all tips. Tips received through the hotline and online reporting form will go to a 24-hour watch desk at the Florida Fusion Center for assessment by intelligence analysts. The new service will be publicized through public service announcements and on posters located at malls and bus stops.

New Forensics Tool Can Expose All Your Online Activity
New Scientist, (09/07/2011), Jamie Condliffe
Researchers at California's Stanford University have found a way to bypass encryption on a PC hard drive, giving them access to a record of websites a user has visited and whether that user has any data stored in the Cloud. Offline Windows Analysis and Data Extraction (OWADE), an open-source software, works with PCs running on a Windows operating system. The development team has made the software available to the public at no charge; the package combines the encryption bypass with data-extraction techniques to allow users to uncover illegal online activity.
