The U.S. Trustee Program is the component of the Department of Justice that protects the integrity of the bankruptcy system by overseeing case administration and litigation to enforce the bankruptcy laws.
Responsibilities Include: The incumbent is responsible for the administrative and legal management of the Alexandria, Virginia, United States Trustee’s Office, including the supervision of personnel assigned to the office; the implementation of civil enforcement strategies to combat fraud and abuse in the bankruptcy system; as well as the new provisions of the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005; the administration of cases filed under Chapters 7, 11, 12, and 13 of the Bankruptcy Code; representing the United States Trustee in court; maintaining and supervising a panel of private trustees; supervising the conduct of debtors; and ensuring that violations of law are referred to the United States Attorneys for possible prosecution.
Applicants must possess a Juris Doctorate degree; be an active member of the bar (any jurisdiction); have at least 7 years post-J.D. legal experience, preferably in bankruptcy law or litigation; and possess extensive management and supervisory experience. Preferably, applicants will also have knowledge and experience in accounting principles and investigative procedures, supervision of human resources, and office administrative responsibilities.
Occasional to frequent overnight travel is required.
Current salary and years of experience will determine the appropriate salary level. The possible range $123,758 to $152,900 per annum.
