About the Office: The United States Attorney’s Office, Western District of Virginia, covers 52 of the state’s counties and employs approximately 25 Assistant United States Attorneys over four staffed offices. The main office is located in Roanoke, Virginia. Branch offices are in Abingdon, Charlottesville and Harrisonburg, Virginia.

Responsibilities and Opportunity Offered: The Roanoke, VA Headquarters Office of the United States Attorney for the Western District has an opening for an Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA).

The criminal caseload for the selected applicant will include the full variety of crimes prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, including, but not limited to, major drug cases, gang-related violent crimes, other crimes of violence, computer crimes including child pornography, and sophisticated white collar offenses.

The applicant selected will represent the U.S. Government as an Assistant United States Attorney on a wide range of unique and complex criminal cases. Additionally, he or she may be selected to serve on a temporary promotion to the position of Deputy Criminal Chief. The period of the promotion is not to exceed 4 years, and may be extended. In addition to handling cases, the Deputy Criminal Chief will oversee the work of several line AUSA’s and will serve as a key member of the Office’s management team.

Qualifications: Required Qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. degree, be an active member of the bar (any jurisdiction) and have at least 1 year post-JD experience. Ideal qualifications include a minimum of 2 years’ post-JD litigation experience.
