ASSISTANT DIRECTOR CIVIL DIVISION, OFFICE OF CONSUMER LITIGATION WASHINGTON, DC
About the Office: The Office of Consumer Litigation (OCL) is responsible for both criminal and civil litigation, as well as related matters, arising under a variety of federal statutes administered by federal regulatory agencies that protect public health and safety. OCL’s mission is to protect individual consumers and represents government agencies who serve consumers. OCL's affirmative litigation will include any significant consumer protection matters and may include areas as adulterated and misbranded food, drugs, and devices as well as hazardous and unsafe consumer products, unfair and deceptive advertising and franchising practices, unfair consumer credit and debt collection practices, and deceptive and fraudulent internet and mail order sales. OCL's defensive litigation includes actions challenging federal policies and initiatives that protect the public with respect to the purchase of foods, drugs, devices, and other consumer products. Much of the litigation handled by OCL brings Congressional and media interest and scrutiny. OCL's client agencies are the Food and Drug Administration, the Federal Trade Commission, the Consumer Product Safety Commission, and the National Highway Safety Administration.

In addition to supervisory duties, the incumbent may also assume primary responsibility for handling some of the most important and difficult cases.
