Maybe I was different, but I joined up to drive around in the black and white car and fight crime. These days, it seems, my students all want to be homicide investigators; or, they are under the mistaken belief that crime scene technicians carry guns and investigate crimes. So, do you want to be a homicide investigator? Take the first test – watch the National Medical Laboratories autopsy videos!

At first I did want to become involved with DNA FORENSICS, but I cant beat the idea of just wanting to patrol and become a Deputy. The whole DNA FORENSICS would pay alot more and what not, but im not doing it for the money. Im doing it for the simple satisfaction that I know I will be out there doing something good and helping others.
I really want to watch this video but I cant at the moment because I am at work!!! GRRRRR ok Well I will try to sneak some time in by viewing it while my boss isnt looking

Thank God for CSI...it seems that everyone who wants to be in Law Enforcement now seems to think that they are going to be like CSI:Las Vegas, running around with their guns on their hips, investigating crimes, and playing with cool toys like infared lights and luminol. What they don't know is that instead, they are going to be out there, combing through every inch of carpet for hours in a hotel room trying to find a strand of hair while the actual law enforcement officer is out hunting the criminal. They are going to find themselves stuck in a lab, hardly seeing the light of day, analyzing the narcotics we send into them or trying to process a strand of DNA that actually takes more than two hours to do.
CSI has done a lot for the law enforcement community...heck I have had people ask if we can fingerprint a leaf...then when I tell them No...they say they did it on CSI. All I have to say is if you want to be a Homicide Detective...then you have to do your time in the patrol unit like the rest of us.

I wanted to become a homicide detective because I found it very fascinating, until I found out that I had to become an officer for 5 to 6 years before I am even considered to become a detective.
I am not built to be an officer, I am 5'3" and I weigh..well...I weigh over 10 lbs of what my average weight for my height should be. I just know that I am going to pull over the wrong person, I will get over taken by some HUGE guy that will take my gun and shoot me where I stand!
Yes, I do want to become a CSI--NOT because of the show--I was into Court TV's Forensic Files, I-Detective, etc. waaaaaay before CSI:Vegas.
I find how the human body reacts to trauma fascinating!

I agree, being a homicide investigator would be a great job. My cousing is a retired homicide detective and absolutely loved it. I'm more interested in forensic science in a lab setting as opposed to being an investigator. I took a forensic science course and it was fascinating.
