They say if your a woman and, you get the lights to pull over that you should never pull over untill you get to a public place. For safty reasons... But what if that public place isn't very close... do you just keep going until you find a gas station or something. They say thats what your soppose to do but wouldn't you get in trouble for not pulling over. I just don't want to get pulled over and get raped and then shot in the face! That would suck! I also don't want to get put in jail for not pulling over cause that would suck too! Soo I just want to know what a womans options would be in that situation or are we just screwed...
Well thats all the cop questions I have for today...until next time

Greetings Candy:
I agree - getting shot in the face would suck. This is a fairly typical question. With out going into what is a very long and complex lecture about the theory of situational crime prevention, the bottom line is that to be put in the position of being pulled over in a seculded place at night you must be driving in a seculded area at night.
Okay, so you stop driving around in seculded areas. Second, if you are speeding down the freeway...and, you know when you're speeding, and a cop "lights you up" it is very likely legitimate. If you are committing a traffic violation and you are pulled over by a police car that looks like a police car....well, the odds of it being a "face shooting rapist" are remote.
So, what if - you are driving down a deserted country road at 0300, you are observing all traffic laws and a car that isn't painted like a police car, nor have lights on top, flashes its lights and displays a somewhat hokey looking red light. If I were you are would slow about to five MPH under the speed limit, observe all traffic laws and drive to a safe place. If you think it may not be a cop, drive to a fire station, police station or some area that has people. Now, if the car is joined by a second car...that probably means it is a police car and he has a back-up now. So, you have decreased the odds of getting hurt, but increased the odds of getting arrested for failing to yield. What next?
Pull over, turn the car off, activate the interior dome light and place you hands on the wheel. If the officer approaches he or she will ask you why you didn't pull over....in your most scared voice tell him or her that you weren't sure it was the police and you were driving to a safe place.
If they don't approach and tell you to exit the car...do so, slowly and deliberately. Again, explain your actions. I think you will find that if your presumptions were and concerns were well-founded the officer is likely to accept them, issue you a citation for whatever violation and let you go.

| Actually I had heard that there is a number you can call, I dont know what that number is, but its suppost to send you to a dispatch, and they will contact the officer behind you and tell them to follow you to the nearest store. If this is true or not, im actually trying to find out if there is any truth to that.

lol that reminds me about this article i was reading where this woman had called the police on her neighbors, saying the music was too loud, so the officer arrives at her house, takes the complaint and leaves, about 10 minutes later she calls 911 and asks the dispatcher to transfer her to the HOT POLICE officer that had responded to her call. She also told the dispatch that she was getting old and she might as well get some from a hottie! So yes, the dispatch sent the officer back to her home. The officer ended arresting her, i just dont remeber what the charges where!
lol ok i know it had nothing to do with the topic but i thought it was funny!

Candy,
I would like to recommend something--I have preached this to many female (and male) friends and family members and I have advised my officers to consider this situation if it occurs while they are conducting a traffic stop in a barren or desolate area.
I recommend you slow down to a safe and prudent speed, turn on your dome light and also turn your hazard lights on. By slowing down and turning your hazard lights on, you are acknowledging to the officer that you are aware he/she is behind you. By turning on your dome light, you are allowing the officer to see that you have "nothing to hide". This is important as it helps the officer see what is going on inside the vehicle and helps the officer report to other officers or the dispatcher what he/she is observing. As was stated in a previous post, if you do not stop in a reasonable amount of time, generally the officer will request assistance from other units and they will respond (afterall if a good car chase is going to ocurr, we all have to get in on it!! LOL). Once the second unit responds and you see this, stop in a safe place on the side of the road. At this point you will have your dome light on and I also recommend that you place your hands on the steering wheel. Again, if the officer asks why you didn't stop, tell the officer that you weren't sure it was a police officer behind you and you were driving to a safe place to be sure. Most law enforcement officers should respect and understand this.
One final note--calling 911 to verify the traffic stop is not a bad idea however, I do not recommend this every time and on all situations but stay on the line with the 911 operator even after the traffic stop is verified by the 911 operator. This way if there is a discrepancy you will have someone listening to the stop on a recorded line.
Good luck and drive safely!
