Conflicts are interest are particularly troublesome in government service because it not only looks bad for the government agency who an individual is associated with and it could cost the individual their job. Unlike the private sector government employees are held to a higher standard and if they do anything that might seem that it could benefit us it tarnishes the agency in the public’s eye. As law enforcement officers we are held to a higher ethical standard, which would include to not receiving any type of benefits because of our profession. In order for the community we serve to believe and work in partnership with us we need to be trustworthy individuals. We need to maintain ensure that we not do anything that would cause the community we serve feel that we can’t be trusted.
