| Ethics and leadership relate greatly to criminal justice. In order to conduct justice we must behave in an ethical manner. In the criminal justice system each working member must at some time be a leader. Whether it be leading themself or leading others. Leadership skills are very important for every working member to posses

| Employees in the criminal justice system are held to a higher ethical standard than in most other careers. Dealing with victims and offenders and at times deciding the fate of others requires ethical standards. By enforcing the law in one manner or another, you need the ability to know right from wrong. Ethics is also important in leadership. To be leading others and being an example for others to follow, you must have ethics yourself. Leadership is important in criminal justice for working in the community and working with fellow employees.

Employees working in the criminal justice field will have to deal with leadership and ethics everyday they are on the job. They will come into contact with a variety of people from different cultures. Situations will occur often in which morals and ethics need to be taken into consideration. Situations will also occur in which there needs to be a definitive leader. As criminal justice employees, people will look up to you to be confident and decisive.

| i think that ethics relates to every profession, espaecially in the Criminal Justice system. here i've learned that there is so much room for descrestion in this field, to where ethics should be a core value on the job and off the job. The teaching of values, ethics and morals is helpful, but people need to internalize it and beleive they need it in their lives in order to make the right descions. Taking this class has really taught me that it is so important for police officers to really know how they themselves work and need to make the best possible choices in any given situation as a leader, it's difficult to make split descions and i feel it can be scary to act on such quick impluses, but if you are well prepared and you have a stong sense of waht is ethical and what is not ethical you will be making the right descsions.

How do you see ethics, leadership relating to criminal justice?
I think that leadership and ethics in relation to the criminal justice system is very important. Leadership is the act or an instance of leading and ethics is when you choose what is right and wrong for you; both of these are important part of criminal justice because you have to "perform" these two tasks everyday you are on the job. When you are employed with a criminal justice organization, you are constantly being held responsible for your actions. In this job, you are held to a higher standard of ethics by the community and by your peers. Leadership is important to ethics because in order to lead others you must set a proper example and have good ethical choices. Once you are able to demonstrate that ability, then I feel you are a good leader.

How do you see ethics, leadership relating to criminal justice?
I think ethics and leadership are entirely related to criminal justice. If a leader within the criminal justice community (for example, the police chief) does not have good ethics and moral standards, his agency could run wild. The chances of the organization getting into trouble or violating the law would increase when there is not a good example of leadership for others are set to follow. When people view their boss acting unethically, they will often copy the behavior, even if its wrong because no one is telling them not to.

| I feel ethics and leadership are what makes a law enforcement successful or detrimental. It is the foundation in which drives the organization. Ethics and leadership are critical in maintaining an honest and morally sound agency. Without the two major elements organizations will find corruption and coercive behavior acceptable/normal. Criminal Justice is constantly being challenged on what is ethical and unethical behavior because of the nature of the job. If individuals do not have a clear view/meaning of what is ethically right than problems will occur. Leadership is typically successful when the organizational's leader is ethically intuned.

| Without leadership and ethics, we would not have trustworthy officers ont he street. These two qualities are what seperated them form the cirminals. If deparmtnet did not have ethical officers, then their chances of faceing law suits would skyrocket. You give these men and women a badge, gun, and car and then send them out ont he street to protect the public. Ih they are not capable of leadership than how will they make the decisions necessary to do their job. Last edited on Thu Dec 7th, 2006 10:12 pm by sirhc9999

| Ethics and leadership have everything to do with Criminal Justice. We all know that there are sub-cultures that develop and any working environment, these sub-cultures develop their own ideas and beliefs which can create its own agenda. It is important to stress the importance of ethics with in this group but it will not be successful unless we have a good leader in the group that is will to adopt these ethics and encourage them with the rest of the group. Ethics are just ethics if they are not being practiced and they cannot be practiced if the leader of the group does not believe in them.

Ethics in the field of law enforcement is very important and significant because ethics is used in this field everyday. Law enforcement officers encounter difficult decisions that will involve ethical thinking. A criminal justice employee will have to deal with different ethnicities, languages, religions and will have to use ethical thinking to deal with them. Ethics will also be used by leadership personnel because a leader will have to act ethically correct in very aspect of his/her career. A criminal justice employee will have to act ethically because it is a very public job.

| To be apart of the criminal justice field a person must display good ethics and leadership skill because within the criminal justice field continuous decisions are being made and enforced which have a huge impact on peoples lives. Good ethics gains trust within our society and someone working within the CJS who displays a good ethical character with strong leadership skills initiate followers who will hopefully be encouraged to do the same. Good ethics and leadership by these individuals forms a solid foundation for trust in the criminal justice system by citizens, which is very important to our society.

| Ethics is one of the most important factors in regard to law enforcement and criminal justice. Like ethics, leadership is also a desireable factor. These qualities are what separate officers from criminals and civilians. People in the criminal justice field are faced with difficult decisions every day. There are plenty of times where they can take advantage of something and become corrupted by the power they were given. Ethics and leadership, being the norm for officers, allow officers to root out problems that deal with corruption and bad decision making.

Both ethics and leadership play a key role in criminal justice. Police Officers, Probation Officers, and others are held to a higher and more ethical standards. People look up to them for guidance and security. So if they do something bad or against the law they are looked at differently because they are an employee within the criminal justice. I think this type of job has more standards and leadership roles then any other field because they are involved with people and the community. Each person in this field needs to have good ethics and be a strong leader.

I agree with Scarbery112 that employees working in this field have to deal with leadership and ethics everyday on their jobs. The fact that they come into contact with such a variety of people and cultures you have to use good judgement and know whether what you are doing is going to be right or wrong in their eyes. There will be involved in many situations and it is up to the employees to decide and know what is good for them and others they are involved with.

I think ethics is very important to criminal justice. Those who are members of the criminal justice system (non-offenders) are held to the highest ethical standards. These ethical standards make these men and women the example for our society should be; or if they act in unethical manner they become the epitome of all that is wrong with our society. Ethics are what keep people on the straight and narrow.
Leadership is also important because strong leadership is need in any organization, not only criminal justice. Influencing others behaviors is a challenging task and if done ethically can be very positive. In criminal justice there are so many needs for strong leadership that it should be studied in order to help make well rounded and educated leaders for our system.

I agree with CRIM112cordero that there is a very high standard placed on members of law enforcement, probation and corrections. i also had not really thought about every person needing to be a leader, ethics yes but not the leader aspect. i thought that was a very good point to bring up because people with these jobs are infulencing behavior daily.

I like the issue vanus brought up about aining trust within society by having good ethics. i agree that being a strong leader with good ethics can also lead to other actining in a more ethical way and that our society as a whole gains. How do you think strong leaders with poor ethics should be handled?

| In order to be a leader in life you must lead by example, and for you to do that you have to follow good ehtics as well. This all ties in in criminal Justice in a sense that people look anyone dealing with criminal justice and follow their example. If we dont lead they will not follow.

| Ethics and leadership tie very close to the criminal justice field. We need ethics to guide us when conducting this job. We are going into a profession in which we are facing the public all of the time, we can dramatically impact the lives of the people that we come into contact with, and for this very reason we should make sure that we are doing our job ethically. If not we can make some mistakes that could cost some people their livelihood, or us our own jobs. Leadership is also very key in criminal justice, without it we would be in kayos. Effective leadership is essential to any agency who wants to succeed. We need good leaders to show us how to grow, and how to properly and effectively do our jobs.
