| I also thought the presentations were useful since some of the sites were topics or areas I would otherwise not visit by my own initiative or never stopped to think they were out there..like the sites on gangs. I actually saved all the handouts we were given and placed them in a binder in case I ever need to refer to it at a later date. You never know when those things can come in handy. It's a great tool to use as a starting point for future research whether for school, in a career, or self-knowledge.

My final thoughts on this course is that becoming a Police Officer is not easy. There are steps that you have to take and during those steps they are weaving people out. And I will never forget that my leg strength is way more important than my arm strength. Your legs help you over the wall!!!!
The most interesting part of this couse is th movies!!!! The movie about war showed a completely different side of it. I learned that the people who think they are the good guys are not always the good guys!!!
What was least helpful was the gang chapter because most of that stuff I already knew and its the same stuff. But what was interesting was the Hate crime websites!!! I couldnt believe what was on some of those web pages. Something should be done

| I agree. I think that if any of the students didnt learn something that they thought should have been taught, then they should have asked Foster about it. The students even could have went to his office hours. I think that Foster taught us stuff that he knew we would remember and that would be helpful for when we do become Police Officers. You cant teach everything, when you only meet once a week. Nways, i loved the class. I only missed one day and its because the class is interesting and I knew what ever the discuss was it would be fun. (My favorite was when I had to lie in front of the class and he told them how he knew I was lieing!!!) Good stuff

First i want to say HI to Catrina!!
Second, it was a pleasure being in Prof. Foster's class this semester and i hope to keep in touch with him in the future because he was and is such an inspiration to me. The way he talks about his experience being a police officer makes me think that it would be so much fun, so very exciting and definately rewarding...I do not really want to be a plice officer but after this class it is on my list as a serious consideration. Everything i learned in this class was useful and most of it was all new information that i know i will carry with me throughout my life....I am kind of sad the class is ending but even good things have to end eventually.
I wish all of you good luck in your futures and hope you all have leanred something tat you feel will help you later on in your life journey. God Bless and Take Care!!!

Diana,
I have to agree with you on how much fun it was having Foster as a teacher this semester. I am ending my 2nd semester and I have come across some crappy teachers in the CJ department and Foster is NOT one of them. Foster answered most of my deeply feared questions about "a women" becoming an officer and can a women be a good officer. I hope to get him again next semester because like I wrote earlier, "There are not that many good teachers in the CJ department."
I learned that theory can be fun and exciting to learn and how one can apply it to everyday life. I will be keeping this book and looking through it as I get further and further into my CJ degree.
Professor Foster I will miss your straight-forwardness and I hope to take another course with you in the future.

Being in Professor Foster’s class was one of the most memorable experiences for me. I learned a lot about different theory’s relating to different crimes and other acts. This class reminded me a lot about a psychological/sociological class, trying to understand why criminals do certain acts or why crime happens in more areas then others. We had a discussion in the middle of the semester and we asked him if women in the police force are any different then men. He reassured the class that women handle themselves differently then men and they have their own tactics. There is no difference when it comes to do their jobs. Just everyone has their own tactics. This reassured me and brought my confidence up to pursue my hopes in being a police officer.]

| I would have to agree. I think the presentations were very useful. I was able to use some for other classes and some personal discussions. I think that he should always do the presetnation. Everyone learns a lot and you yourself leave with a grasp of everything you can obtain on the interent

I honestly learned a lot in this course. I had always been overwhelmed and confused by all the criminolgical theories, but this course really helped my sort them all out and understand their background and what they are all about. I really would have liked to explore deeper the criminological theories from a law making standpoint; I know that our class paper was on that subject, but I would have liked to discuss it a little more in depth first. For example, I would have liked to discuss what theories support which laws and punishments in our society, and even in other societies. I think that would have really made writing our research papers a little bit easier. Personally I felt that the terrorism video was the least useful. I didn't see how it really related to the course and that much aside from the first chapter on terrorism. That's just my opinion though.

The both courses have helped me learn about police work and criminological theories. The most interesting part of the course was learning about terrorism. The Battle of Algiers movie opened my eyes about how the same terrorist methods are being used in Iraq. I would have liked to explore more on theories relating to gangs.

The criminological theories were explained thoroughly in class. This gave me a better understanding on why people commit certain crimes. I think that the death penalty should have been covered in class because it would have helped us write our papers.

I agree that the website presentation were helpful. I learned about 30 different subjects relating to Criminal Justice. These websites might come handy later in the future. The websites were very informative when learning about different subjects.

I also agree. I looked forward going to class because I knew I was going to learn something new. Prof. Foster did a good job explaining how real police work is really like. I hope to take more classes with him because he is one of the best instructors at CSUF.

| First off, I enjoyed you as a teacher. I wasn't to sure about you the first day of class, but I must say I'm glad I stuck to it. You are a very knowledgeable person and your ways of testing really forced me to learn the information and actually retain it. I learned a great deal on the different types of theories in depth. I really enjoyed hearing about your own personal experiences because it made the literature and notes make more sense. I don't have many complaints about this course and I'm happy to say I can leave knowing I learned a lot.

| I'd have to agree. This course was very knowledgeable and the information Professor Foster had for us are things we can carry on with us for future references.

I disagree on the importance of the terrorist video on Algiers. I thought is was informative in that the film began with one perspective as to what consitutes a terrorist, their ideals, goals, etc and the view they and their cause is evil. As the film continued the perspective on terrorist seemed to differ. It changed, at least for me, as to who was "righ" or "wrong" in cotinuing to fight this battle or war.
Maybe my perspective on the film was different than other classmates. I absorbed the film as how there really is a fine line on to what is terrorm or terrorists vs. people defending their land and resources against foreigners/invaders. That was my take on the Algiers film.
Again, I found it useful to see how it went from one idea and transfered to another.
Sorina
PS. I wish the Bin Laden film could have been longer! Interesting.

Share your final thoughts on the course. What did you learn? What was the most interesting part of the course? What would you like to have explored deeper? What was the least useful part? Recall, at a minimum, you should create on original post and respond to one student.
CRJU 330 was a very fun and interesting course. I learned many new theorys of crime and explanations of why certain crime might occur. I also learned ways to stay safe, and methods to prevent certain crimes from happening, such as being mugged at night near an ATM and so forth. Since Prof. Foster was in Law Enforcement for many years, i found his stories, and experiences very interesting. I would have loved to explore the future of crime deeper. What laws will be dropped (such as marijuana). i thought that this whole class was very useful. The least useful part of this class was probably the Star Wars flick, but its always good to have a little fun here and there.

| I also thought that this class was very useful. It was fun. I liked that Prof. Foster uses his actual life experiences for examples. I liked the riot lecture alot. The video we watched in black and white was very interesting as well. The professor was very open minded, so it made the class more enjoyable.
