I thought that this course was very interesting (CJ 330).  I thought that it built on what was taught in the CJ 300 class very well.  I also thought that it was nice to see a different side of the criminal justice system with all of the theories that we learned about.  The information that I leaned in this class will help me throughout my life even though I am not going to enter law enforcement or any other related careers.

I agree that Professor Foster's stories and anectodes were usefull in illustrating his points and his manner of speaking his mind frankly was refeshing.

hey, this is cesar

This course was very interesting to me. Having an instructor that has actually worked on the street as a police officer has been a bonus feature. He has really made the coures exciting to me, especially the gerat stories that he had. The best discussion that i liked about class was the use of force discussion. I was fully focused the whole time. The only part of the class that i didn't like was having the class log that you had to fill in. It wasn't hard to do but, it just seemed unnecessary to me :-)

This class helped me learn about police work and criminological theories. The most interesting part of the course was learning about terrorism. The Battle of Algiers movie opened my eyes about how the same terrorist methods are being used in Iraq. I would have liked to explore more on theories relating to gangs.  but, the class was always fun and upbeat, i just wish could watch more cool videos like that movies "The Battle of Algiers" also i wish he would teach more cj classes because he is one of few actually good teachers!

I enjoyed attending all of the class sessions.  I found Foster interesting and fair.  Every teacher has a different style of teaching, and I appreciated the way Foster taught.  It was easy to understand him and interesting also.  Sometimes teachers are complicated in their style and confusing.  Foster was upfront about the info you needed to know and clarified it.  We need more instructors like him.

I enjoy the forensic sciences, and if there was one topic of my choice to expand on in class, it would be this one.

I agree with you all about Foster.  He gets you engaged in the class.  I just came back from a 2-day meeting at work that was about engaging associates and how important it is.  Bottom line, that's what Foster does.

During the course of this semester what I learned the most was how certain theories apply to crim, for example the labeling theory which states once a person is labled a crinmal they are more likely to take that role. This class was also very interesting becasue Professor Foster provided the class with his own experinces as a LAPD officer and the criminal justice system. A tool that could of helped to learn bettter was if power point was used I think its earier to take notes that way.

I agree with you Cesar I also think the class could of done without the log. Also Fosters stories as a police officer made the class a lot more interesting. If Foster teaches again next semester Im defintely taing him again.

Hello all,

I would just like to say that the most interesting aspect of this semester in CJ330 was the homicide section.  I learned a great deal of things such as manslaughter and the scenarios/consequences in which it entails.  I do not recall any part of the course that I did not like.  Everything that Mr. Foster presented was very interesting and relevant to the class.  I think his professional career in Law Enforcement is what made the class so productive.

I found the course lectures to be very instightful and helpful to understanding what it takes to get into law enforcment... and most importantly, last.  Sadly, much of the course has turned me even further away from wanting to become an officer because my personality just doesnt fit.

I really enjoyed Prof. Fosters examples from his time with LAPD.  I wish we could have spent more time discussing the effects that being in law enforcment can have on your body and mind.  Overall, I enjoyed this course very much... above many of the other CJ courses I have taken.  It was a great course to finish off my BA with.

I disliked the log as well, it became almost a chore every week to do.  Also, I forgot to do it for the first two weeks and had to go off of recall.  To compensate though, i liked the presentations and found many of the websites introduced to be helpful.

I learned a lot from Professor Foster just by hearing his experiences in the LAPD. I really enjoyed hearing what goes on in the real world of policing. His lectures really opened my eyes for pretty much everything, from hate crimes to terrorism to law enforcement in general. I feel that I can use everything I learned in the criminal justice field. In all, Foster's experience in law enforcement really helped me understand some of the concepts taught in class. I would very much like to take another course with him!

The log did seem like a chore but oh well :(. The website presentations were very helpful though. He should continue to do that :)

I learned an incredible amount of information in this course, from police technology, hiring procedures, and even police culture.  I'd like to have explored slightly deeper into who exactly the police deal with on more of an every-day basis.  It is hard to find anything "least useful" in the course, however I got semi-bored with all of the various fingerprinting databases

I learned about police and what they do. I was always so scared of them but now i really know what goes on and the stresses that are put on them not only mentally but health wise. I now feel sorry for police and what could happen to them down the road like all the illness that they can get from working. It was an interesting class, i learned alot.

In this course, I learned a lot about the police culture. It gave me a whole different perspective about being in the law enforcement area. Although there are guidelines, there is right or wrong in handling situations as long as there is good judgment involved. I knew a little more about the the FBI, US Marshalls, Border Patrol, etc... and their functions in society. I am not sure what I did not learn. It seemed as though information are scattered everywhere. i would have liked to go in deeper about FBI because I am thinking about going into that area. In part of the course, I liked that the students had the chance to ask the professor questions about being a cop. The answers to questions were quite interesting and I think it gives us a sense of what it would be like for those who want to go in the law enforcement.
