This is the introduction thread for students in the following course:

All Union Institute and University Winter Semester 2008

(Includes Session I, Session II and Semester Learners)

You must make two posts to receive full credit.

First, introduce yourself.  Remember, this is an open source forum that many people read.  In general, what is your current job, the current course you are taking, your educational goals; and, what do you expect from this course.  Second, once you have posted, read the other students posts, reply to at least one.

Hello All,

My name is Tad and I am working in Iraq training the Iraqi Police.  I am taking the Police Technology course to advance my educational goals.  Not sure if I will be able to apply much of this course work here in Iraq but look forward to the challenge.

I'm Lonny.  This is my fourth or fifth course with the criminal justice program at UI&U.  I have approximately four more to go after I complete the terrorism cours.  This is my third course with our professor, Raymond Foster.  As I've enjoyed all of my courses so far, I again am looking forward to this course.

I'm going on my third year as a cop in Oceanside California.  I've spent all this time in patrol.  Eventually I'll try my hand as a detective and hopefully some other assignments along the way for the sake of furthering my career.  However, at this point, I don't look forward to leaving patrol.

I'm late posting as I missed the first deadline, and I see there is only one other student so far.  I'm guessing there are more out there.  I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks Lonny and let me say I have a great deal of respect for you as well.  I know the job is diffcult and there is little time for classes but here you are plgging away at your goals.

Like you I worked patrol with LAPD for 10 years and loved every minute of it.  You stay safe and make sure you and your partner go home everyday.

Hello, my name is Stan Flores. I am a police officer at Arcadia and currently taking a computer crimes class by R. Foster. I have been an officer since 1995. I have had the opportunity to be a part of the F.A.S.T. program where I was an observer for our city as well as others in the San Gabriel Valley, with Pasadena PD's helocopter.

I have also been an FTO ( currently assigned for the third time), a detective (Burglary and later Narcotics), a member of the APOA. I am currently a member of our Force Training unit, since 1998, as an instructor for the handgun and M-16, Arcadia SWAT Operator from 1998 to 2004 and then an operator on FSET, a multi-agency tactical team and, as mentioned, an FTO.

I am finally getting caught up on my education and hope to be finished by April. I may jump into a Masters program then, if I can find the time. I have a very small propeller when it comes to computer related activities, heck, it took my avoer an hour to get here.

My name is Mary Taylor and I am currently working as a Police Dispatcher for the City of Monrovia.  I am currently enrolled at the Union Institute University and my goal is to complete my Bachelor's Degree in Civil Management and my long term goal is to get my Master's Degree.  I am currently enrolled in Management of Criminal Justice as well as Multicultural Law Enforcement and Terrorism.  I hope to have a better understanding of how the criminal system works and to apply or suggest ideas to my current employee as well as any job change I may have in the future.

Hi Lonny,

My name is Mary I am currently enrolled in Professor Raymond Foster's Terrorism and Management of Criminal Justice class.   My son has also been a Police Officer for the past Three years for the City of Pasadena, and it seems like you enjoy your job especially for being with a department for such a short time.  I wish you the best of luck in your goal to become a detective and I commend you for aspiring to further this by educating yourself.  Professor Raymond Foster has written a lot of great books that provides a lot of helpful information and I am very happy I have the opportunity to take these courses.

I work at LAX PD. I've worked there for eleven years and two years as a reserve ofcr at Montebello PD. While at LAX I've worked in patrol, undercover, bike team and now the k-9 team.

This is the second class I've taken with R. Foster. The first time being Computer Crimes and now Police Technology. I plan to teach with my degree at some point.

Hi Stan!!

I'm Robert Corchado from LAX PD. When I read that you were from Arcadia PD I just had to write to you to ask you about Mike Hale. He's my best friend and I'm the one that talked him into going to Union for his degree. I'm so jeolous that Union was able to start classes at your department. I wished my department had jumped at that opportunity.  Well, stay safe out there and say hi to Det. Hale for me.
