Hello All

I am a 21 year verteran of the Los Angeles Police Department. It has been one heck of a fun ride to this point.I have finally decided it would be good time to promote to the rank of Sergeant. My department for the first time will require 60 college units as a  requirement to take the test. I found myself a few short so I enrolled in UI&U.I hoping to not only get the required units to promote but get my degree in the process. If you are in my position I wish you all the best of luck I know I will need it.

Hi,

Like the rest of you I am a student at Union Institute.  I am currently enrolled in CRJ-410.

I am a Sergeant from an Orange County Agency with 19 years experience. I have been working as a Detective Sergeant for the last year and a half.

The first time I was suspended I was doing kboddy a favor. Be careful around that guy.....

Human Resource Department.  He is excited about possible employment, and it is good to hear that you like working there. Hello,

I currently work for the Port Police (L.A.) and absolutley love it.  My current assignment is with the marine unit (boats) and the dive team.  For any of you considering a lateral move, we've never had anyone regret it.

This is my fourth semester at Union, so i'm about half way through.  I'm currently taking CRJ 410 - Management of Criminal Justice Information Systems.  I've taken one other course from Raymond Foster (computer crimes) and learned a great deal.

I'm very interested in expanding my knowledge of information systems in criminal justice.  Once I complete my Bachelors degree, I plan to continue on towards a Masters degree.

Good luck to you all,

Jkeen

Hey Bruce -

Wise choice to finish the degree.  With all your experience added to the degree you'll undoubtedly be that much more valuable to your department.

Congratulations and good luck getting throough the program.

Hi everyone:

My name is Alicia, this is my second session with the Union Institute. This is my first class with Proffesor Foster. The first class was very interesting due to the fact that he gave the class a lot of information. I am looking forward to learn about technology and apply it later on in my career. I have been in Law Enforcement for almost two years, I work for the LASD, and I am currently assign to custody.

Hello everyone,

My name is Ryan, and I'm currently assigned as a patrol officer for a small agency in the South Bay area of LA County.  I was recently promoted to the rank of Sgt. and look forward to starting my new position this coming Saturday.

I'm enrolled in the CJM410 class at the Arcadia site, and this is my first class with the UI & I family.  MAN, my head was spinning from all the information on the first night.    My educational goal was to finish the program and obtain a B.S. Degree, but now my goal is to get through this first session .  What am I expecting from this course?  I'm expecting my brain will be on overload, and possibly fry!  :D

Until...

JW,

I'm somewhat in the same position, and appreciate the well wishes.  I'm gonna need every well wish I can get.  I'm just hoping the ride will be just as fun for me as it has been for you.

I am 23 years old. I have recently joined the sheriffs department about a year ago. Before I joined the department I was going to school and did a little traveling while studying abroad. Now that I have the academy and traing out of the way, I have decided to continue my schooling so I can hurry up and get it out of the way already. I have been attending U I&U for about 5 months now and plan to be finished by some time in April of 2009.

Just an FYI, I am having trouble getting the book. I ordered it a while ago from Amazon and found out it's won't arrive until sometime next week. SO I went ahead and canceled that ordered and ordered a used book. As of this writing, the new order has shipped, but I haven't received it yet.

You must make two posts to receive full credit.

First, introduce yourself.  Remember, this is an open source forum that many people read.  In general, what is your current job, the current course you are taking, your educational goals; and, what do you expect from this course.  Second, once you have posted, read the other students posts, reply to at least one.

Hello everyone, my name is Cris and I have been a Deputy with lasd for 12 years. I have worked partol at lennox and west Hollywood and now I train the reserves. This is my second session with Union and my first class with Mr. Foster. I would like to promote one day and thought this would be another benefit for my resume. I am about as smart as rock when it comes to technology so even this post took me awhile. Looking foward to this class. I have already learned a lot by reading the first chapters.

Hey Ryan, hang in there, I know how overwhelming it can get. This is my second session and have come to find out it's all about time management. Look at me, I'm doing this post at 0100 in the morning because it's the only time I have to myself away from the wwife, kids and work.

Don,

I heard your name mentioned by a professor when I started last session.  I had one of your classes at Mt. SAC several years ago and enjoyed it.  Hope all is going well.

When I asked for the favor, I thought you knew red lights meant for you to stop....Boy, one little suspension and I'm branded a trouble maker for life.  Thought you were taking this session off?

Yea, I wish I could go to the campus, much better in the class environment.  The on-line difficult because I am in Philadelphia right now.  Was going to miss the first three classes, so I had to go to the on-line course.  Had Andrews for my first session.  He is a good guy.  Hope to see you next session.  Kevin
