This is the introduction thread for students in the following courses:
All Union Institute and University Summer 2008
(Includes Session I, Session II and Semester Learners)
You must make two posts to receive full credit.
First, introduce yourself. Remember, this is an open source forum that many people read. In general, what is your current job, the current course you are taking, your educational goals; and, what do you expect from this course. Second, once you have posted, read the other students posts, reply to at least one.

Introduction
I am a student in Union Institute and Universities, Computer Crime class. Part of the course requirement is that I introduce myself. Well I will make it easy for you. All you have to do is go to http://www.ci.glendale.ca.us/police/Bio_Meredith.asp and that will tell you more about me than anybody would care to know.
This is the second class I have taken from Ray Foster. I have taken the Police Technology class and found it extremely beneficial and informative. So I am optimistic this class will also enhance my skills with technology and related investigations.
Since I am tutorial on this course, I wanted to say hi, to those former classmates.

Hello,
I have been a police officer for over five years in the City of Oxnard. In addition to patrolling the streets of Oxnard, I am on the combined Police and Fire Dive Team. If plans go accordingly, next session will be my last session at Union Institute and I will receive my B.A in Criminal Justice. Currently, I am enrolled in two of Professor Foster's courses, CRJ 410 and CJM 304. Since I have completed a course with him previously, I know I will gain an immense amount of knowledge in regards to terrorism and management information systems.

Hello Don,
How is the start of your session going? Similar to you, I have taken a course with Foster and gained an immense amount of information relative to computer crimes. Currently, I am enrolled in two of his courses, terrorism and police technology. Although it will be a challenge, I am sure at the end I will be glad I did it and gain knowledge valuable to my career in law enforcement! That's great after 36 years on the force, you decided to pursue more college studies at Union Institute. Have a great session and good luck!

Hello,
My name is Daryl and as you mentioned, part of the the course requires that respond to someone else's message and introduce myself. I am not in the law enforcement field however, I work closely with LAPD and I have a basic understanding of law enforcement challenges. I have many years with the LAFD and I offer my experience if it may assist you in the future.

JGraham,
Hi, I am down to my last classes and so far things are on target for June graduation. Yippee..then onto the Masters degree. Yes it is interesting that after 36 years as a cop I decided to finish off my education, but having had two kids get their BA degrees I figured I should be on par. lol
Keep things safe up there in Oxnard,
Don

Hello,
I currently work for the Port Police (L.A.) and absolutley love it. My current assignment is with the marine unit (boats) and the dive team. For any of you considering a lateral move, we've never had anyone regret it.
This is my fourth semester at Union, so i'm about half way through. I'm currently taking CRJ 410 - Management of Criminal Justice Information Systems. I've taken one other course from Raymond Foster (computer crimes) and learned a great deal.
I'm very interested in expanding my knowledge of information systems in criminal justice. Once I complete my Bachelors degree, I plan to continue on towards a Masters degree.
Good luck to you all,
Jkeen

What's up JGraham,
Well from reading you Bio, we have some things in common. I see that your on the dive team for your department. Maybe we'll see each other one day in a dive course. I've taken several good Police dive classes. The last one being FBI Post blast course. In the course, we received thorough training of identifying, constructing and blowing up different types of bombs and then diving to retrieve all of the evidence for reconstruction. Also, courtroom testimony regarding your discovery was covered in the class. I highly recommend this course for you and your department.
Good Luck
Jkeen

Hi Don,
I applaud you for pursuing and completing your formal education. I have found it to be a little intimidating at first, but now I am near completion myself. Good luck to you!

Daryl,
Thanks for the note. I am down to my last 5 weeks and found the program to be exceptional once I got into it. Many of my classes have been tutorial and that requires some self-discipline to stay ahead.
Hope things stay quiet for you these next few hots days,
Don
