This is the introduction thread for students in the following courses:

All Union Institute and University Fall 2008

(Includes Session I, Session II and Semester Learners)

You must make two posts to receive full credit.

First, introduce yourself. Remember, this is an open source forum that many people read. In general, what is your current job, the current course you are taking, your educational goals; and, what do you expect from this course. Second, once you have posted, read the other students posts, reply to at least one.

Greetings!

I am a online student attending the Union Institute & University. I will obtain my Bachelors of Science degree in December. I have been a police officer for the city of Visalia for the last 10 years. I have worked patrol, SRO, and the Gang Unit. I am currently back in patrol. Upon graduation, one of my goals is to become a Parole Agent.

Hi Everyone-

I am Frank Lima. I am a Captain with the Los Angeles City Fire Department. I have worked for the department for 16 years. I also serve as the 2nd Vice President for Local 112, the United Firefighters of LA City Union. This is my first session with Union Institute. I am currently taking PUA 450 (Bus. Gov. & Society) and PUA 402 (Organizational Dev. & Change). My educational goal is to obtain my Bachelor's degree. My expectations for the course include gaining a better understanding of the various aspects of an organization especially from the managerial perspective of government run agencies. I am new to the concept of forums, chat rooms, and blogs, so I anticipate my biggest learning curve to be navigating these outlets. For example this is my second attempt at posting this introduction. I look forward to working with you all.

Hello. My name is John Holt. I have been a Firefighter Paramedic for the city of Los Angeles for three years now. I am curently in my first semester at the Union Institute taking Public Administration. I have two classes which are PUA 402 and PUA 450. I hope to be challenged, educated, and to gain a better perspective on different levels of organizational development throughout various institutions. I hope to get my Bachelor's degree and be able to use it to move forward in my career.

Hi All,

My name is Jim Featherstone, I work for the Emergency Management Department of the City of Los Angeles. I am currently enrolled in PUA 450 (Business, Gov't. and Society) and PUA 402 (Organizational Devel. and Change). My goal is to obtain my BS. My expectations for both courses is to be able to take the academic and find practical applications for it in my current work, public sector government.

Although I've utilized the Internet as support (chat/discussion boards) for several courses, I'm not sure that I've figured this one out. I've probably "over-posted"...

I look forward to learning with all of you.

I am sorry, I am late. It is entirely my fault; I have too much even that going though in my life at this moment (work, school, planning my marriage, family visit). I need to fix my schedule ASAP. I am Calvin Sung; I am a National Guard soldier doing full time duty for the Army. I do translation (Chinese to English) work. I am taking English 102 and CJM410 at this session. My education goals are BS on Criminal Justice and Psychological. Since my education is pay by Army, therefore, I would go for my Master as well. I would like to know more about Information System (IS) that use in police.

Hello,

My name is Taneshia Mason. I am currently working as a Parole Agent with the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. I have obtained an associates of science degree in Criminal justice and I'm currently enrolled in Union Institute and University to obtain a undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice Management. I'm scheduled to complete my program in February.

I plan to attend Cal State Fresno in the fall of 2009. I am very interested in the Social Work Graduate Program. I would like to embark in a new career after I retire from the Department of Corrections.

Trust me, It is very hard trying to go to school, have a family and work full-time. I know .

For those of you that are jus starting out, take my advice. Don't fall behind as I have done this session. I started last February and paced myself pretty well, this session though I have had other things impacting my life and caused me to fall behind. Hang in there and stay focused.
