This is the introduction thread for students in the following courses:
All Union Institute and University Winter 2010
(Includes Session I, Session II and Semester Learners)
You must make two posts to receive full credit.
First, introduce yourself. Remember, this is an open source forum that many people read. In general, what is your current job, the current course you are taking, your educational goals; and, what do you expect from this course. Second, once you have posted, read the other students posts, reply to at least one.

Hello,
My name is Miguel. I am a police detective with a Southern California police department. I have been a police officer for 18 years and have had the opportunity to learn and gain expertise in several areas including, fire/arson investigation, burglary and auto theft investigations, and criminal intelligence. I am a Union Institute learner and am enjoying the courses so far.
I will be taking my first promotional examination in November of this year. I have been having so much fun as an officer that I have not had the desire to promote until now and Union is helping me prepare for the testing process.

Hi, I guess I should read first since I posted my first intro under new topic.
My name is Ginger, I have been a police officer working patrol for the past 15 years. I have not had a desire to promote because I have had so much fun in patrol working with the same partner for over ten years. I need to grow up eventually so I am going back to school to finally get my degree. I am currently enrolled in CJM 410 and CJM 304.

Hi Miguel,
I think you are also in the other on ground class with me. I, like you, have enjoyed being a patrol officer for so long that I have had no desire to promote. I am now getting old so I need move forward here eventually.  I am finally finishing my degree which is something I have always wanted to do even if It is not for promotion.

Man this is CONFUSING!
Hello, My name is Adrian and I am currently a Police Sergeant and have 15 years on with the LAPD. I am currrently assigned to Community Relations and over see a variety of progrmas that include at risk youth, Cadets, volunteers and reserve Officers. I have aspirations of promoting that is why I am back in school.

Hey Ginger, dont worry. I think I screwed up too and posted in the wrong place. Well Im gald you are pursuing your degree. It only took me 10 plus years or so to finally get in gear and do this! Hopefully you think about promoting. Well, best of luck!

Hi, I am new to the criminal justice forum. I have worked for a southern California Law Enforcement Agency for 13 years and am currently a Sergeant.
I am very happy in my assignment but plan on taking a promotional exam in the near future. Depending on buget constraints..

Hi, my name is Pat. I am a Sheriff's Deputy in Southern California. I have been on Patrol for 10 years. I am also retired Air Force Reserves in law enforcement. I am a Union Institute Learner and am currently enrolled in CJM 410. I figured it was time to go back to school and obtain my degree, so I can enhance my future promotability and other job assignment selections.

| Hey class, My name is Stu, I've worked for probation over ten years now and figured I should stick it out and finish my degree. In my other line of work a degree isn't that needed, but it will be nice to say I have my Master's which I plan on getting.

I guess Ginger and I are on the same page. I am new to posting and forums. I believe that I too hit the new topic button, my bad (smile).
I am Felice Thompson, and I am employed with a municipal agency in southern California. I am a Beat Coordinator in my agency. I am a UI & U learner, enrolled in the Police Technology course. My goal is to complete my BS in Criminal Justice Management in preparation for retirement. What do I expect from the course? Hmmmm, knowledge. I am in the latter phase of my career and I want to know the inner workings of what is going on in my agency, why and how I can use the information to make the most of the time I have left.
