My name is Jon and I am a Senior at Cal State Fullerton, I am currently working on my BA in Criminal Justice. I have been a Cadet in Orange County for the last 2 Years and I am currently assigned to the IT Bureau. Once finished with my BA I will apply to become a police officer, and eventually go back to grad school. With this class I hope to learn something new.

Hello Everyone, (Not sure if I am posting correctly)

My name is Sorina Mather.  I am a new transfer from N. San Diego County and am in my 3rd year.  My major is Criminal Justice with a minor in Psychology (after last semester's class, not sure WHY I'm still in Psych.) My goal is to go on to law school and work in the field of criminal law.  However, I am also open to finding other career alternatives in the criminal justice arena that would require only a Bachelor's Degree.  Any suggestions?

Although I hold an A.A. in Paralegal Studies I have choosen to continue working my way through my undergraduate years as a massage therapist.  I have been in this line of work for about 7 years at both the managerial and therapist level. Two of the seven years were spent working at a well-known resort/spa in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.  So, if you ever feel overstressed or have a pain in your neck (the literal kind) then you know who to call!

Hello Joseph-

I read your post to Emily regarding assignments in the "Behavioral Science" departments.  I am currently majoring in Criminal Justice with a minor in Psych.  Would this suffice for a career in that arena or would it be best, hypotheticaly speaking, to double major? Is there any difference insofar as securing a job in something like a "hostage negotiator"?

My goal is to go to law school.  However, I have to think about the cost of law school and am an adult (30's) with many financial commitments. Thus, law school MAY not be the BEST option for me. So I am looking for other career options that would require a B.A. rather than a graduate degree (i.e. well paying)

Thank You,

Sorina

Hi Everyone!
My name is Katelyn and I am currently a senior at Fullerton.  I started out as a  criminal justice major and it is now my minor, while I am finishing out with a major in communications. I work at a dirt bike shop during the week and bartend on the weekends, so I am very busy. I am definitely interested in the field of criminal justice, but as time went on, I wasn't to sure what I wanted to do in this line of work. So basically I freaked out, had enough classes to make it my minor, and here I am. I haven't exactly decided what I want to do once I graduate, but I have some things in mind!

Tony-
I noticed you wrote someone else and mentioned you had Dery for 2 classes??? I don't know if you've had him before, but you'll learn so much....but you MUST study for his tests!! When he says to know EVERYTHING from what he's lectured on, he's not messing around. You have NO clue what he'll ask on his tests!! A little info for ya if you haven't already had him!! :) Katelyn

Hello Everyone,

My name is Lupe and I'm currently taking 3 CJ courses as a Junior. I work for the Orange County Superior Court, Criminal Operations Department in Santa Ana and Criminal Justice is my major. This is my 3rd semester at CSF and I keep seeing the same faces in most of my classes and yet know no names....I hope this semester is different :)

Katelyn,

That was very nice of you to tell Tony--and all of us who have Dery, including myself--how to pass his class.  I heard from another teacher that Dery was, "A very hard professor," but he had TONS of high ratings from students.

Hi Tony!

Hey Everyone,

Im Joe Nunez.  Im a Criminal Justice major.  I should graduate late in 08.  Everyone in my family works for some type of law enforcement so its no surprise I will be doing the same.  I work at Best Buy and I hate it.  I install everything and anything in cars.  Sounds cool but its not.  See you all in class.

Hello,

I am a student at California State University, Fullerton and work for Parking and Transportation. Currently, I am enrolled in CJ 330 Crime and Delinquency, CJ 310A Law-Substantive, CJ 385 Minorities and Crime, and CJ 315 The Enforcement Function. I expect the above courses to be interesting and stimulating. My educational goals include finishing this semester and graduating, and pursuing a Masters' degree. I expect CJ 315 to be course that will aid in my overall response to issues concerning the Criminal Justice System.

Hello, hopefully this response is placed in the correct forum this time. I was a little confused the first time I posted. In reading your post I found the distance learning a topic of interest even-though posting on the correct forum proved difficult. I have taken a few distance learning classes and find them as an easier avenue for student participation. This form of communication enables students to express thoughts in less of a threatening environment.

I plan to get my Master's Degree in Library Science with an emphasis in Archiving and Database Management.  I am aware of larger law enforcement agencies that utilize the advantages of this type of degree when dealing with preservation of evidence, mainstreaming large amounts of information, etc.  While I am aware that those jobs are not readily available, I am also interested in working at libraries on college campuses and working within larger museums as well.

For a short time I considered going into law enforcement when I got out of the Army since I was a Military Police during my committment.  However, I decided to pursue a more academic route and have since decided that regular law enforcement is not for me.  By regular law enforcement I mean working the streets and being "in the trenches" so to speak.

I have considered working in corrections dealing with juvenile delinquents but I am not sure getting my degree in Social Work or Counseling is what I truly want to do.   No matter where my flights of fancy take me, I also go back to Library Science.

I hope to learn a lot of things from you all throughout the course of this semester.  Please feel free to reply to my posts at any time.
Have a great semester everyone!!
Catrina
