Hello Out There,

I've been in law enforcement for almost fifteen years, and I'm finally committed to getting my B.A.  Procastination will keep you from getting your degree if you let it. I have so much with my wife, kids, work, church, and overtime I wonder how I can pull this off. I need about thirty units to graduate. For lieutenant our job posting now states a bachelor degree, which is an added requirement, so I want to be ready instead of regretful.  Also, I hope I can be of help to someone during this course, because I'm sure I'll need some.

Bye for now-

Hola, Welcome to the party of school learners. Almost all of us come from many of years of ignoring or delaying our degree, due to different obstacles or decisions one makes in our lives.  This is my 2nd session and I was able to get through by the support of my husband in taking care of the kids, while I went to the library on the weekends. It was a difficult task to adjust during the week and working extra ours of O.T. and attending my family, but it can be done.  It was a great relief when I  complete the first session.  Now I have 22 units to graduate in October.  I have 7 seven years in LA Cnty Probation and looking forward in using my degree for promotions.  So good luck and don't give up.:D

Hola, thank you for the encoragement. It looks like you can see the light shining brightly at the end of your tunnel! It helps a lot when your spouse supports your goal, especially when you're in the middle of a big sacrafice (generally the time you have spend on school work).  My wife is very supportive of me as well in this "sudden" quest for a degree (I've been out of school for a over seven years).

This is my second semester, or third session at Union. We'll it's time to get cracking at the books again.

Bye for now,

Hola,

Doesn't  it make it easier when your spouse supports you.  I think we are very fortunate to have them!!!  I was out of school for 7 years as well, but the degree holds my future.  Good luck, amigo!

Bye for now...

Greetings.  I am too finally  committed to finishing my degree.  I need about 39 units.  I have been in law enforcement for 22 years.  I am looking forward to learning and completing my degree.  It will also help me with promotions and for life after law enforcement.

mbarronunion,

It's nice to see all of my fellow Officers in this forum.  It looks like you'll have your degree in no time.  My hat's off to you for finishing up on it.  Good luck, I look forward to talking with others who are in law enforcement.

Stay focused, the goal is worth attaining. I think the degree becomes more important later in life.

Hello everyone,

My name is Joseph, I'm the boot of the bunch.  I've only been in law enforcement for one year, so I'm looking forward to learning not only from my professors but also all of you veterans out there.  I currently work for the Los Angeles Port Police. I'm enrolled in English 102 as well as computer crimes.  This is my first semester at Union Institute so i'll be around here for a while.  I wish you all the best and look forward to getting to know you all.

Welcome to UIU. It's a litle different approach to learning, but you still have to put in quite a bit of time to make the assignments happen. Just keep taking classes and don't take long breaks and you'll get to your goal.

Take care.
