Greetings to all!!
My name is Jason Vennettilli and this is my fourth semester at Berkeley College. I am studying Criminal Justice and am pursuing a career as a Police Officer.
Currently, I work for Lowe's Home Centers as a Loss Prevention Manager. This position is unlike any other Loss Prevention position in that we are not focused primarily on shoplifters and apprehensions. In essence, we are treated more like a Financial Adviser to the store we are assigned to, tasked with reviewing and studying reports and trends, looking for the greatest opportunities to prevent loss in the store. While there is much external theft activity in our stores, it appears (and it is proven time and time again) that Operational mistakes are the primary cause of dollars lost. Furthermore, once we have identified the circumstances causing the store's loss, we as Loss Prevention are responsible for either reversing the error or creating and driving programs that will reduce this identified loss in the future. There are times when I will conduct dedicated surveillance on a particular department and apprehend shoplifters, but the majority of my day is spent in front of a computer or buried in files.
In regards to this forum, I believe it to be a wonderful opportunity for those, like myself, looking to get into Law Enforcement to learn from others who are already protecting and serving. While I do come from a Law Enforcement family (my father is a retired Ohio State Highway Patrolman), it is so very beneficial to hear from others who are facing the streets in this day and age. So much has changed since my father was a Police Officer, that even he wonders how Officers handle the stress day after day. It will be an honor hearing from those protecting all of us.
In closing, I would like to wish everyone the best of luck this semester; and to those out there night after night watching over us, thank you. It's a shame, but I don't think you get to hear that enough. God Bless.

| Hello all I am new to this website I am here because it was part of my assignment to to enter this dicussion board. Which is weird to me because I am from Berkeley College and our school has its own private discussion baord. I am a Criminal Justice major at Berkeley College so in being part of this dicussion board I hope to learn as much as possible. I guess this discussion board is bettter because in th schools discussion board we are only limited to students in our school. At least with this discussion board I am communicating on a broader range. So that means a lot more to learn. Anyways I look forward to this learning experience. Thank you all

| I just became a special officer in hackensack. So I am new to Law Enforcement, but I am learning a great deal through police academy and several of the classes here at Berkeley. But I've just been taking every civil service exam in ny and nj waiting for the right job while I am a special in hackensack.

| Wow!! Sounds kinda fun, even though you're on call. And I had no idea there was money in that profession. Very interesting to know. Do you plan on staying in the field for awhile or no? Oh & what city do you work for? Diane

| Hello, my name is Craig Merrick. This is my 3rd quarter with Berkeley College, and it has been a great experience thus far. I received my Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from a community college in NJ, and I am pursuing CJ at Berkeley. I am employed at a correctional facility in NJ as an Instructor Counselor. I interview, and test the new inmates when they enter the institution. I also help educate, and plan for their future when they are released. Upon completing my degree, I plan to use it for promotional purposes within the correctional setting.

Hi Natasha. I noticed that your career goal is to be a counselor at a correctional facility. I am employed at a correctional facility in NJ as an Instructor Counselor. We are associated with the education department, therefor are counseling is mainly focused on the educational, and vocational rehabilitation. It is a very rewarding career, and I think that you will enjoy your career choice.

Hi everyone!
My name is Lyndsay and I am a student at Berkeley College. I didn't get to post last week because I had problems logging in. But to sum it all up I am a criminal justice major and I plan on hopefully going to the academy for the NJ State Troopers and eventually becoming a homicide detective for the state.
I just finished my assignment for the week, building my own computer and all. I went with a Dell because I already have a Dell at home and I love it. I went with a notebook rather than a desktop because it would be much easier! This assignment was actually pretty fun! I enjoyed it. How did everyone else do?

Hi! My name is Ines and I've been working as a Paralegal at a law firm for the last 3 yrs, i love my job, and I'm graduating Berkeley with my Associates in Justice Studies next quarter. I was going for my Bachelors in Management, but since I love the law and what I do, I changed my major. I'm taking a break from school after graduation and deciding what field of the Criminal Justice system I want to be working in, I'm choosing between and attorney, a police officer, or a forensic...well when I do decide, I will go back for my Bachelors.
