Hello,
I'm Jason, a police officer for four years in the City of Oxnard. In addition to patrolling the streets of Oxnard, I am on the combined Police and Fire Dive Team. In summer session II, I am enrolled in College Math and Computer Crimes. I plan to receive my B.A in Criminal Justice next year from Union Institute and Univerisity. In regards to Computer Crimes, I hope to gain a better understanding of computer forensics and computer networking.

Hello! This is my third class with Union Institute. I've been a police officer in Oceanside California for two years as of this week. I guess I attend through the LA campus, but all of my classes are online. I'll have my bachelors in about a year. I'm beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel for the first time. I've been working on it for about six years now. Union offers a good program that works well with my patrol schedule.

I'm also in my third session. I know a lot of people are taking two classes per session. I'm sticking with one. Its more manageable for me.

Jason, I have found this technology class very interesting and only wish that I took the course or had something like it earlier in my carrer. I am so far behind when it comes to technology especially when it comes to computers. The Police Technology book along with some of the websites that can be found inside are a great tool. If you get a chance check out IACP site, it covers pretty much everything..

Jim if you get a chance go to pipstechnolgy reference the "PAGIS" (scanner for the license plate). Our agency purchased one of these at a cost of approx $27.000.00. The company also makes stationary devices that could be pretty much put everywhere. This would make a good when it comes to fighting domestic terrorism.

Oxnard is probably similar to Oceanside. We have the Port Hueneme Naval Base nearby but it seems like anyone could get on that place. Due to the military installations in our communities I honestly dont think we prepare enough when it comes to domestic terrorism. If you get a chance our group is doing a report on the PAGIS system. It is a license plate scanner that mounts on the top of a police car and can read plates at up to 130 miles per hour. The site is pipstechnology and I think every point of a military installation should have the stationary models. By the way good job on getting your degree early in your career. GOOD LUCK

| I have been in Law Enforcement for 19 years in southern California. My current assignment is working the Robbery/Homicide unit. I am working on my B.A. degree through the Union and plan to finish by early 2008. During the computer crimes course I hope to gain a better understanding of computers, forensic analysis and networking.

I graduate in December and plan on beginning the credential program in the Fall of 08. I am currently working for an insurance company. Hello,
My name is David and I am Junior at Cal State Fullerton as a Criminal Justice major. I currently work as an Operations Consultant with a large bank. While I enjoy my current position I am hoping that once I finish with school I can get a job with the government that I can feel a sense of accomplishment or help others. I hope to learn in this class to gain a better understanding of the relevance of minorites and crimes, and the true/falses of what is reported about it.

mhardyunion,
WOW, to be in the robbery/homicide unit must be a demanding and busy schedule. Hopefully, it can be rewarding when it can be prevented or the person is caught. Well, congrats on 19 years on the force

Hello!!
My name is Beth Franz. I am a senior at CSUF studying criminal justice, I am currently employed at a health insurance company reviewing prior authorizations but I am in a background check with the Probation Department to be a correctional officer in juvenile hall. I am toying with the idea of law school but for now I would like to work with children in the criminal justice system. I expect to better my understanding of the criminal justice and the treatment of minorities through this class.

My name is Samantha Hoang and I am a senior, majoring in Criminal Justice at CSFU. If everything goes well, I will be graduating this December. I am a supervisor with the United States Postal Service in Santa Ana. I have two wonderful teenagers and currently taking 18 units. After graduation, I hope to get a position with the LA Coroner Department. I am fascinated with the how's and the why's of death. My ultimate goal is to be the voice for the victims and help bring justice and closure to their families. I have always thought of myself as a "minority" until the last Thursday. What I hope to get out of this class is the broader understanding of minorities and their contributions (good and bad) to the criminal justice system. I had Professor Foster last semester for Enforcement Function and enjoyed the class. Good luck everyone!!!

Hi Beth. It's great to have you in the same class again this semester. My stepfather started his career as a probation officer in juvenile hall. He is now the Senior Director for the Crenshaw District. It's hard, but rewarding job especially when you can make a difference in a child's life. Good luck with the background check and a new career awaits. Let's have a great semester!
