This course has been a great learning experience for me. To be able to understand the technology systems that I have been using for the past 15 years is invaluable. I have thoroughly enjoyed the lecture portion of the class. Since our last lecture, I have had a paradigm shift regarding the enforcement approach to crime trends.
Although I do aspire to promote in the distant future, attending Union University and graduating is more of a personal accomplishment rather than a professional one. Gratification for me will be when my 3 boys watch me graduate!

| I think what I've learned so far in continuing my education will benefit me in my immediate career as well as in the future. As far as my immediate career goes it has helped understand some of the basic management principles involved in being a supervisor, which hopefully will happen for me sooner than later. As far as the future, it has given me some some basic tools which I can implement in my leadership/mangerial style. Overall the courses have been very interesting and they have given me a different perspective on some of the issues that I may have not thought about prior to attending Union.

artc I completely understand what you are saying when you talk about the example you are setting for your children. I have two teenagers and I want to show them the importance of education and how much easier it would have been had I done this 15 years ago. Education today plays such an important role in many professions today, which is something most of us didn't foresee many years ago.
Good luck with your goals and way to be a positive example.

I am in the 27th year of my law enforcement career and entered with only a high school diploma. During the course of my career I gave very little thought to education beyond the standard P.O.S.T. classes. It was not until I successfully promoted to the rank of sergeant did I recognize the need for improved leadership and management skills. UIU so far has a program that serves the needs of those in all levels of management and supervision. No position in a police/sheriff's dept. is beyond the need for an education.
Although I may not promote beyond the rank of sergeant with my organization, the fact that I completed my degree will satisfy my goals and objectives this far. Thanks UIU.

Hey Eric,
I am one of those that is closer to the end than the beginning of a law enforcement career too. Although I would like to promote closer to the top of the food chain I may fall short. My organization is small and management positions are few. We do not have a formal promotional process at my organization. The selection process is based on loyalties to less than honorable city leaders. I do not regret the fact that I received my degree though. It was a personal challenge and a long awaited goal. We are and will continue to be productive members of the law enforcement society.

| I'm a firm believer in education. I enrolled in Union Institute for a few reasons. One- convenience, I work directly across the street from one of the facilities where the classes are held and two- promotability. I must say after completing the first session, I was very impressed with the curriculum. I'm sure the knowledge that I will gain after completing these courses will help me to succeed in my career as well as help me to make better decisions as an officer.

The courses that I have taken at Union Institute has also helped me to look at things from a supervisor perspective. With the knowledge that I will gain, I hope to make better decisions in the field in order to make more arrests.

This program has been very beneficial to both my career so far. I feel it has helped develop my writing and research skills. I have found the subject of noble cause corruption to be very interesting and will hopefully set a foundation for future decision making.

I agree with you that one of the great motivations to completing this program is the positive impact it will have on our children and help us to be better role models for them.

| The progran has offered more than a degree, It allows for the open discussion of ideas, shared experiences and fosters networking. In a very short amount of time it sharpens your critical thinking skills and in my case has sealed my decision to obtain a Masters Degree

| Art I agree with the other comments. I too have children, two of them currently in college. What your doing sets a great example for them and is the very definition of "Leadership from the front."

This is my first time returning to college after a long break. I am definitely learning more about my career that will not only market myself better but also help me to be more well rounded. Union has given me this opportunity and I have much more to complete. My police technology class has seriously opened my eyes to the impacts it has on my present and future with my department.
