The most important thing i have learned so far that i will benefit from the most is the fact that you cannot trust anybody while on the job. I have also learned that there are more things you can do in Law Enforcement other than being in a patrol car although that is what i want to do. Ive learned that there are State, Local and Federal Law Enforcement agencies. I plan on graduating in Fall of 08 and then entering a police academy preferably at LASD, LAPD, or OCSD. FBI would be cool but i really dont want to move out of the state.

| I have learned that crime theories are used to explain the behaviors and characteristics of criminals. I apply crime theories to particular group(s). The labeling theory has taught me how it is used to identity member(s) of a group.

Working in Law Enforcement has many advantages, in that it is a career in which you are always learning new things. It beats working for a job where you're doing the same repetitive job. Good luck in you're future in law enforcement.

Concepts and theories help me better understand why crime is committed. I believe that concepts and crime theories are beneficial to law enforcement in helping officers understand why these occurrences occur.

I have learned so much since the begininng of my college career. I've been attending classes for such a long time, therefore I feel that I can call it a career.
I have enjoyed the discussion of terrorism and hate crimes. In searching more about these subjects, I have expanded my knowledge in several different careers available through the FBI.
What I have learned so far has not changed my direction in what career I have chosen. However, I have a different outloook of Terrorism. I now know there are different terrorists. I always thought that I terrorist was just a terrorist.
I have no interest in Police work, but have enjoyed learning more about the organization and administration of the police.

I completely agree with you about how great it is that Professor Foster teaching style is not like most Professors. He offers many realistic examples that go with his lecture, which in return gives his students a more understanding of what he is teaching. I have learned so much in his class. It is obvious that he likes to teach and is quite good at what he does. Of course he is quite knowledgable is many different areas, that his information is all first hand.

| While taking Criminal Justice classes one can get excited about the career in listening to the enthusiatic professors. One can get bored listening to the un-enthusiastic professors. The real learning experiance was acually working for a local department as a part time employee. After two years working at a department, I understand why so many cops and retired cops have told me not to go in to local law enforcement. That is the beauty of the law enforcement career, and that is there are tons of different opportunities for jobs in many different areas. For the time being I am going to finish my degree and then decide what I would like to do with my career.

| I have taken terrorist threats reports, but that was just because the person said they were going to kill someone. It is not what you would think of when the word terrorist is used. It is handled like any other investigation, it is sent to the detectives to investigate. In terms of "real" terrorism we have division that handles all the tips and leads on terrorism. We don't hear mush about what they are dong or what is going on.

| I feel that everything I have learned in this class up until this point has helped me to gain more knowledge on the criminal justice system. I've learned alot about terrorism and what constitutes a terrorist group, it's not just the act of killing people, but many other things as well. Through this course I have learned more about law enforcement and the role they play in helping to keep our community safe. My favorite part of this class to this point was probably learning about the different hate crimes and hate group's. We got to go through many different websites about people and their views of different races or orientations. It was really shocking and sad to see how people can be so locked in their own views and can be so naive!

| I also agree with you that Professor Fosters style of teaching is great! It makes in easy to come to class because you know you won't be bored! My favorite thing about Professor Foster is that he uses so many real examples so that you can better relate to the subject he is teaching! I also like that he uses different forms of teaching so that you dont' get bored just looking at a screen or a white board, he knows how to change things up!

| I really enjoy Pro. Foster's lectures. I feel he has been very helpful in making me understand the enforcement function. This is the only class that I haven't missed all semester lol. I still don't know what I want to do when I graduate but hopefully I will know when the time comes. I learned that I don't want to join law enforcement but I really enjoyed Foster's stories. I liked last week's lecture on hate crimes and different hate groups. I also like the fact that he listed a lot of websites on the different hate groups. Some of those websites are very disturbing but I feel more knowledgable now.

| I also wanted to say that I enjoyed learning about the technology in law enforcement. I liked the video about how police officers and highway patrol are trained to drive a certain way in a chase. Technology advances really help police officers do their job more effeciently and effectively.

| I think that I have been especially influenced in this course by all of the coverage of global terrorism. I sort of went into this class with the idea that terorists were just a buch of nuts who kill people from other countries in the name of Allah. Now i know that they are a bunch of nuts who kill people from other countries, but they have other motives and there is an actual process/method that they follow.

| I agree with you. i had been introduced to various criminological theories before, but not as in depth as in this class. I think i'll be able to function better in my career in law enforcement better having an understanding of why or why don't people committ crimes

| So far, I have learned that something as simple a donating money to an organization that seems legitimate, can turn out to fund some sort of terrorist group. As if the criminals on the street are not bad enough, now we have terrorist groups getting their hands into the pockets of Americans to fund their cause. Not new, but interesting all the same.

| In response to jncj33007 post on not trusting anyone and there's more than being in a patrol car. You are right about there being more than "pushing a black and white". The problem most new officers have is wanting to jump into something specialized before knowing how to work the streets. I've been on the job for almost eight years, and there are still things that I learn on the street. The experience you gain on the street will make you that much better in your specialized unit. Good Luck in your career, and don't be in a rush to become "specialized."

Hello Everyone,
I am currently taking CJ.315, Enforcement Function at Cal State Fullerton. After I graduate I would like to become a police officer. In CJ.315, I have learned the procedures on securing a crime scene after a crime has been committed. I learned that law enforcement is a high discretionary profession, and police officers use discretion everyday. During the semester, I have learned the difference between reasonable suspicion and probable casue. In class we talked about how officer safety, and the safety of others in and around a crime scene is the first responder's responsibility. We talked about the process that a person goes through in order to become a police officer, and we disscused the types of questions that are asked in a police oral interview. I believe that this class will prepare me to make smart decisions on the streets when I become a police officer

Hi Ihickamcj31507,
I agree with you in that Professor Foster's class is very educational. He explains everything really well and he knows what he is talking about when it comes to law enforcement. I agree with you in that he educates us on the realistic side on how police officer's carry themselves. I also think that you should try to find some kind of profession in law enforcement if it enterests you because their are plenty of professions out their in law enforcement other than police officers. I think that law enforcement has much more opportunities for advancement than any other profession. Good luck with your credentials.
