This class has taught me various things that can help me in my career, one is the role of Domestic Violence on the victims and the cycle of  DV, I found the guest speaker to be extremely informative and I learned that women abuse men in various ways, not just physical.  Realizing that many men are victimized as well opened my eyes to many other forms of domestic abuse and violence.

Responding to acolizzi, i too was amazed by the impacts of affirmative action.  I realized that in order to promote in my field I must complete my education, I too am a woman, but I realize that being Caucasian may hold some disadvantages in promotion and hiring processes.

I think people should open up more in class to the discussions.  There is too much diversity in class to not have more interactive and fruitful conversations about the topics being discussed.  It's either we truly have come a long way or no one wants to truly rock the boat out of respect for political correctness.  I do believe there is a need for senstivity, but I think if people share more openingly we would have a better exchange in class.

Being in CJ 385 has really made me realize that every field is highly competitive.  However, I never imaged how some racial groups, like white people, feel or have to get a higher education in order to be considered for certain jobs when up against minority groups. I just never thought that a white person could be discriminated. This has made me more aware for a future career.

I agree with aacolizzi14, it does give one an advantage in the hiring process being a women in law enforcement, however, we have to prove just as much that we deserve to be where we are. Also that we should not just be considered b/c we are females but we are just as qualified.

In my cj385 at CSUF i have learned that law enforcement officers should be attracted to behavior rather than the appearance of someone. Racial profiling or DWB are key issues that people not in the CJ field look at it. DWB is a key issue some people like to throw out to the media but (im not stating it never happens) but there are rotten apples in all fields and we should look at that rather than say all cops are bad or ass holes.

In cj 385 i have learned so much that will eventually help me with whatever path i follow in the cj field. I have learned as a women i will have to focus on my verbal communication in difficult circumstances because i am not statuesque like a man. I have also learned how affirmative action plays a huge factor in women getting hired in different police departments. Though i guess it is a good thing it almost offends me because besides the physical aspect i feel i could do just as good of a job as man could or better. Like Foster said most of policing is not about the physical aspect.

CLASS CJ385 CSUF TH 7pm

I agree w jlewis. I am kind of tired of that one girl in class always giving us her opinion (which is almost against all of the students in class, since everyone makes faces when she talks or laughs)

I think we should voice our opinion if we want to be heard. I'm on board now to go against the republican.

Your completely right jgonzalez. We all bring something different to the table so we should educate our law enforcement officers when it comes to ethnic diversity.

Good point JGONZALEZ

What I have learned in this class will help me when I communicate with other co-workers by referring to the Communications Model.  By knowing that the intent of communication is used to motivate or influence behavior helps me communicate with the population I work with.

I also agree that diversity is a good for law enforcement.  I think that everyone entering criminal justice should take CJ385 because you learn about how minorities and women have been affected within criminal justice.

I have learned a great deal of information so far this semester as well as my time as a criminal justice student. I do not plan on going into the criminal justice field anymore.  I orignally planned on going into juvenile probation, but as time passed I changed my mind. I plan on becoming a teacher, but there are many lessons that I have learned that I plan on using throughout my life and career. I learned a lot about communication and how it can be perceived in various ways due to different cultural beliefs as well as non-verbal communication. I thought it was interesting that some cultures find eye contact to be extremely rude, whereas if you don't make eye contact here in American culture, you are quickly judged as being rude or untrustable.

So, far I have learned that the system really has its pros & cons. I had an idea about my career path of helping out in the juvenile system but it really seems really demanding when lookin at a persons home and outside environment. Many thing can effect a individuals personality and mind-set. I realized that i cannot be judgemental when assesing other people issues or problems. I still want to be apart of change in young person life.

This class has taught me think abstractly every meeting. I find myself learning new concepts and broadening my thoughts from each lecture. The lecture that I found most interesting was last week’s. I didn’t think that slavery and segregation still existed in today’s society. Although it is not as blatantly obvious as before, it is still presence in a sense. From this lecture I hope to be able to diminish the idea of African American’s being “front-end” loaded into the system. It is a vicious cycle that leads to stereotyping and racial profiling.

I agree with jgonzalez that diversity is needed in law enforcement. It allows for the law enforcer to challenge the stereotypes they hold and possibly even eliminate them. A lot can be learned from someone of another culture, and that is what's needed in this society, seeing as though America is a nation of diverse people.

What I have learned so far has showed me just how diffcult it is to be a cop in todays world.  It seems that one little mistake you do can cost you your job. I realized this from my criminal writhing class and my serch and sezure class. From this class I have learned a lot about diversity in law enforcement. In that sence it brings me joy to see just how much diversity is in law enforcement now.

this course has thought me how everyone has baises that they need to overcome. by knowing that, it will be easier to treat everyone equally. also it was interesting to learn the different phases of domestic violence. by understanding the cycle it will be easier to recognize the signs of abuse.
