Discuss how what you have learned thus far will impact your career. For those of you currently in criminal justice, take the lead. Tell your future colleagues how you see what you are learning having a direct impact on what you are doing now. For those of you whose careers are yet in the future, how as what you have learned changed what you think about your potential career? Recall that you are to, at a minimum, make one original post, and then respond to one other person.

| CSC 392 is a well rounded course with an abundant amount of information pertinent to law enforcement careers. I am amazed how much I learned as far as technology and the various computer crimes out there. Upon completion of my first paper on "phishing," I have found myself seeing it everywhere on the Internet and now I am aware of the dangers and necessary precautions needed to take when working on the computer. Technology is everywhere and this course has provided an immense amount of information I will take with me throughout my career.

Knowledge is power. I've only been a police officer for two years, and I haven't been exposed to much except patrol. In my limited time, I quickly learned all police officers fall within the spectrum of Wanting a paycheck....Wanting to do a great job. I work hard to do a great job. In this job, information is powerful. The more information you have, the more effective you are. I have taken what I've learned about CLETS, CJIS, NLETS, etc... to work with me. I've made it a point to start learning these databases and learn how to access them. I also have made it a point to approach projects differently. When I'm assigned a special detail (Code 5 for 459v, barchecks, gang suppression) I make it a point to step into my detail with as much information as possible. By doing this, I spend much less time driving around aimlessly waiting for someone dumb enough to commit a crime in front of my black and white police car. Information can tip any officer towards the "doing a great job" end of the spectrum.

I also did a paper on phishing. Likewise, I've also become much more cautious when I'm on the internet. It hasn't only made me safer on the internet, but I share this information with people whenever it is relevant to do so. I have taken several stolen identity reports. I am able to explain to the people the process that is ahead of them, the methods used to steal their identities, and how to protect themselves from it happening again.

| Wow, what an impact learning about computer crime and the technology involved in it. Sometimes it seems overwhelming because technology and how people use it is evolving so quickly, it's as if you don't stay on top of things you won't be able to understand what's going on in the cybercrime world. I believe, since I'm in mass transporation that this class has helped think about how terrorists might use technology to create havoc with our transit system. I'm now at least somewhat more capable of understanding the enormity of the problem, that is cyber criminals and the forensic and technological expertise that is needed to get an edge against our enemies.

| I've become a lot more understanding and knowlegeable about ID theft as a result of this class. I think everobody who deals with this problem should stay connected, it's going to take a collected effort (networking) to get the edge and also be able to help the victims and put some more of the perpetrators in jail.

| With the advent of the internet people can sit at home and commit a crime. My father has sent me many of those " I am a prince in Ethiopia, and would like to invest it the US, can you hold millions of dollars for me?" Emails. I have actually seen people taken by these. Or the Ebay offer on your item too good to be true. People dont realize that nobody, I mean nobody gives millions away to somebody they dont know on the internet. There are way too many scams. There is also the fraud alert from Ebay, Paypal or your bank all phishing for your password. Personally when I get them my log in name becomes, "you are now reported" and My password is"U-reached-FBIfraud"

| CSC 392 has been an outstanding course with tons of information directed to the student for practical application. As a patrol officer, I had no clue of the importance when dealing with fragile evidence or computer criminals. To any future students thinking about enrolling in this course, I highy recommend it.

I have learned much valuable information in this class that deals with issues such as perceptions, culture, prejudice, and diversity. i have learned that diversity in law enforcement is necessarily needed. America is the creation of several different ethnic groups, and diversity in law enfrocement is a good impact among any community in the United Sates.

| My class has provided a plethora of information I didnt realize takes place in Law Enforcement. So far the most impactfull would have ot be the cross cultural sommunication awareness that needs to take place to be an affective officer of any kind. Without knowing the cultures that are in your areas you are more likely to make a few enemies or at the least not have the trust of the people that you are suppose to serve. I also didnt realize there are so many different levels of abuse and what those signs are.

| I'd have to agree. It takes a lot to understand people with ID theft. I too (like many others) have had at least a CC stolen and charges i didnt know about until it was too late. These perpitrators dont care about the the law or legal ramifications, they just need their quick fix. Let's work on getting these criminals behind bars.

| The biggest thing that caught my eye this semester was how affirmative action plays a huge part in the hiring process. I never realized how serious of an issue diversity is in the police departments. Being a woman going into the field of law enforcement gives me an advantage when it comes to getting hired. I have also learned a lot more on the subject of domestic violence and how much more serious it really is. I am undecided on what I want to do after school but taking this class has helped me narrow down my decisions on my career path.

| WOW I agree with you I think it is very sad to see people doing this to nieve young ones. My little brother just recently fell for one of these. This guy was from Nigeria and told my brother he won 500,000,000.00. I felt so bad because my brother actually fell for it. He lost some money but luckily we caught it before he lost it all. Terrible learning experience for him.

| I agree as well that we all should be aware of identity theft. We, as individuals need to become more proactive in getting educated on how to prevent ID theft.

In my cj385 class at CSUF I have learned so much in regards to racial diversity in law enforcement and in this country in general. It is so important for people in law enforcement to understand different cultures and how they differ from their own. One of the examples in our text book was eye contact. In some cultures it is disrespectful to make continuous eye contact; whereas, with other cultures this same behavior would appear that the individual was shady or hiding something.

| Having the opportunity to take this class CJ385 has been quite an informative experience thus far. The information we have learned to this point can definitely be applied on a day-to-day basis. From the lectures on classifying what is a minority group, differentiating race, racism, and institutional racism, to our guest speaker on Domestic Violence. I feel that not only will the information gained in this class will help you in a career in Law Enforcement but will also give you a better awareness of the society and people around you.

| I definitely agree with Mmiller in response to the importance of law enforcement officials understanding the different cultures out there besides their own. Many of us tend to get tunnel vision when it comes towards our perceptions of people, things, etc. Therefore, if law enforcement officials gain the knowledge of being culturally aware of their surroundings they will not only be a better officer but be able to approach others outside of their own culture in a more positive way.

| In response to Acolizzi14, I was also amazed to see how affirmative action plays in the hiring process. Growing up we would always hear about it from second hand, but actually seeing how it still goes on today was quite shocking. If two individuals have the same experience, education, background, yet have different colors of skin or a different sex can mean getting the job or not truly can raise some eyebrows. Being a woman does give you an advantage because one there is always a need for more female officers, and second female officers make great officers which many people do not realize. I am glad to see this class has helped you narrow down your decisions on you career path. Best of luck in your future endeavors.
